About

Rowena Coetsee (Gonden)

I am a storytelling expert with a wealth of experience crafting narratives about people and organizations in a way that engages stakeholders and audiences at large.

In practical terms, that means I have the research skills to come up to speed quickly on a broad range of topics. And that requires the ability to talk to people from all walks of life — colleagues would say I excel at finessing interviews to get the best out of sources.

I also can distill complex ideas and industry jargon into clear, concise and relevant stories for a general audience.

As a former journalist, I wrote award-winning stories for a readership that spanned the San Francisco Bay Area.

Working with public agencies, nonprofits, businesses and community groups, I delved into topics ranging from controversial land-use and animal welfare issues to public transportation projects and K-12 education.

My personal favorites included a first-person account of my introduction to aerial acrobatics in a former Soviet MiG jet fighter and a profile of a domestic abuse survivor who received an award for her courage from the district attorney’s office after successfully testifying against her partner.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of California at Santa Barbara and hold a certificate from General Assembly in digital marketing. Last fall I completed a content marketing program with University of California at San Diego Extension.

I’m also a francophone who loves a dog named d’Artagnan.
